I was asked by Make A Wish UK to design a room for a special young man, Josh, and boy did I jump at the opportunity.
Josh’s wish was to have a more grown up room, somewhere that he could go relax and top of his list was a tv and a big double bed. I had the whole design all ready to go, when i walked into Debenhams and found the most gorgeous bedding with charcoal edges and chartreuse stitching…..which ultimately turned the entire design on its head, but I had to make it work as it was grown up but had some elements of fun in it. They always say one piece can set the whole design and oh boy did that ring true with this room.
The first 2 days were filled with contractors painting, ripping up the existing carpet and installing a brand new tv. I decided to go for a neutral grey on the walls and rather bring elements of fun into the room through accessories and decor. Saturday was the final install day and there were some tense moments at first where we weren’t sure we would get the over 2m wide blind up with the solid lintel but with must perseverance it was up, PHEW!
I found some great light pendant vinyls which glow in the dark, which I just loved and formed the perfect finishing touch for the corner of the room. His room was a mix of items from so many different stores, online, highstreet and some special finds found along the way in the search for other pieces.
I loved this project and to see it all come together and the incredible reaction from Josh when he saw it for the first time, is a memory that will stay with me for a very long time.
